  • 十幅幔子;
  • 山羊毛罩棚;
  • 染紅的公羊皮和海狗皮頂蓋;
  • 豎板、銀座和閂;
  • 分隔至聖所的幔子;

Key Verse

“So they continued bringing to him freewill offerings every morning.”
—Exodus 36:3, NKJV

Introduction

Most of Exodus 36 describes the construction of the tabernacle: the curtains, coverings, boards, silver sockets, bars, veil, and screen. At first, these building details may not seem closely connected to our daily lives.

However, verse 3 gives us a very special picture:

“So they continued bringing to him freewill offerings every morning.”

In Israel’s understanding of time, a new day began in the evening. Therefore, morning was not the beginning of the day according to their calendar. However, it was the time when people rose after the night’s rest and began their daily activities and work.

The passage does not specifically say that the people brought their offerings before they began working. We should not make the verse say more than it does. However, the words “every morning” clearly show that this was not a one-time emotional response. Morning after morning, they continued bringing their freewill offerings.

This stands in strong contrast to Exodus 32. At that time, the people could not see Moses and became impatient while waiting for him. They took their gold and made a golden calf. Now, after experiencing God’s discipline, forgiveness, and restoration, they were no longer using their possessions to create an idol according to their own desires. Instead, they willingly offered what they had and followed God’s instructions to build the place of His presence.

God’s grace did more than forgive their past failure. His grace taught them how to respond to Him again.

Transition

A life truly restored by God does more than stop doing what is wrong. It places itself, its possessions, and every detail of daily life back into God’s hands.

  1. Offer Ourselves to God Afresh

“Then Moses called Bezalel and Aholiab, and every gifted artisan in whose heart the Lord had put wisdom, everyone whose heart was stirred, to come and do the work.”
—Exodus 36:2, NKJV

Bezalel, Aholiab, and the other craftsmen were able to participate in building the tabernacle because God had given them wisdom, understanding, and ability. However, they did not simply possess these abilities. Their hearts were also stirred, and they willingly came to do the work.

God gave them the ability, and they responded with willing hearts.

Sometimes we think of offering only in terms of giving money or possessions to God. However, the first thing God desires is ourselves. The time, experience, gifts, and abilities He has given us can all become instruments in His hands.

Bezalel and Aholiab did not use their abilities to do whatever they wanted. They placed themselves under God’s calling and instructions.

True offering is more than saying:

“Lord, I am willing to give You something.”

It is saying:

“Lord, I am willing to give myself to You. Please use me.”

To respond to God afresh each day is to recognise that our lives, gifts, and abilities come from Him and should be used for His purposes.

  1. Willingly Offer Everything to God Each Day

“So they continued bringing to him freewill offerings every morning.”
—Exodus 36:3, NKJV

The people did not bring their offerings on only one morning. They continued bringing them “every morning.”

This was not simply an emotional response on one particular day. It became their continuing choice. They had willingly responded to God yesterday, but today they still needed to choose again. They had obeyed yesterday, but today they still needed to surrender their lives to Him again.

The people continued bringing materials until the craftsmen came to Moses and reported:

“The people bring much more than enough for the service of the work which the Lord commanded us to do.”
—Exodus 36:5, NKJV

Eventually, Moses had to tell the people to stop bringing offerings because there was more than enough material to complete the work.

In Exodus 32, the people brought out their gold because of fear and impatience. In Exodus 36, they brought what they had with willing and obedient hearts.

The question is not only what we possess, but also how we use it. The same ability can be used to satisfy ourselves or to serve God. The same resources can be used to build our own sense of security or to participate in God’s work.

Even if we used our lives in the wrong way yesterday, today we can choose again to respond to God with willingness and obedience.

  1. Follow God’s Word in Every Detail

“Then all the gifted artisans among them who worked on the tabernacle made ten curtains.”
—Exodus 36:8, NKJV

Beginning in verse 8, the passage describes in detail how the craftsmen made every part of the tabernacle:

  • The ten curtains;
  • The covering of goats’ hair;
  • The coverings of ram skins dyed red and badger skins;
  • The boards, silver sockets, and bars;
  • The veil separating the Most Holy Place;
  • The screen for the entrance of the tabernacle.

This long section is very similar to Exodus 26. Exodus 26 records the instructions God gave to Moses. Exodus 36 records how the people carried out those instructions.

This repetition is not unnecessary. It shows that the people built the tabernacle exactly as God had instructed them. They did not change God’s design according to their own preferences, and they did not leave out details simply because the work was difficult.

True obedience is more than beginning with great enthusiasm. It means faithfully following God’s Word, even in details that other people may never notice.

Sometimes we are willing to do great things for God, but we ignore the small matters of daily life. We may appear passionate in front of others while still following our own ways in our homes, work, and relationships.

However, God is concerned not only about whether we participate but also whether we follow His will. Spiritual gifts cannot replace obedience, and enthusiasm cannot replace God’s Word.

Responding to God afresh each day means allowing His Word to direct every detail of our lives.

Conclusion

Exodus 36 is not merely a record of a building project. It describes how a people who had failed responded to God again after experiencing His grace.

Their response can be seen in three areas:

  1. They offered themselves to God afresh—Exodus 36:1–2.
  2. They willingly offered everything to God each day—Exodus 36:3–7.
  3. They followed God’s Word in every detail—Exodus 36:8–38.

In Exodus 32, the people became impatient because they could not see what God was doing. They followed their own ideas and made a golden calf. In Exodus 36, they offered themselves and their possessions to God and patiently followed His instructions, step by step, to complete the tabernacle.

This is the transformation brought about by God’s grace. We turn from following our own desires to following God’s will. We stop using everything to build our own security and begin using what we have to participate in God’s work.

Each morning, as we begin our daily activities and work, we can respond to God again:

Offer ourselves to God, give what we have to God, and follow His Word in every detail.

God is not looking for people who have never failed. He is looking for hearts that, even after failure, are still willing to respond to Him afresh each day.

Reflection

  1. Am I willing to place myself and the gifts God has given me back into His hands?
  2. Are my time, abilities, and resources being used only to meet my own needs, or are they contributing to God’s work?
  3. In the unnoticed details of daily life, am I still willing to follow God’s Word?
