  • 讓神的話重新成為生命的方向;
  • 讓心裏的感動成為實際的行動;

Key Verse “Then Moses gathered all the congregation of the children of Israel together, and said to them, ‘These are the words which the LORD has commanded you to do.’” —Exodus 35:1, NKJV

Introduction

Exodus 35 follows Israel’s failure with the golden calf. The people had turned away from God, worshipped according to their own ideas, and broken their covenant with Him. Moses interceded for them, and God showed mercy, renewed His covenant, and gave them the tablets of stone again.

In chapter 35, Moses returned from the presence of God and gathered the whole congregation together. He did not share his own opinions or only say what the people wanted to hear. Instead, he clearly declared: “These are the words which the LORD has commanded you to do.”

This is one of the most important responsibilities of a spiritual leader: first to listen to God, and then faithfully communicate what God has commanded.

Many times, we have heard many messages and experienced God’s conviction, but our lives still seem to remain in the same place. The problem may not be that we have not heard enough. The problem may be that God’s Word has not truly become the direction of our lives, our conviction has not become action, and what we have received has not yet become a blessing to others.

Exodus 35 shows us that God’s Word is not only meant to be heard. It is meant to move us forward and bring real transformation to our lives.

Transition

If we do not want our lives to remain in the same place, we must allow God’s Word to direct us again, turn our conviction into action, and use our God-given gifts to bless others.

  1. Let God’s Word Become the Direction of Your Life Again

“Then Moses gathered all the congregation of the children of Israel together, and said to them, ‘These are the words which the LORD has commanded you to do: Work shall be done for six days, but the seventh day shall be a holy day for you, a Sabbath of rest to the LORD.’” —Exodus 35:1–2, NKJV

Moses served as an intermediary and leader between God and the people. He went up the mountain to hear from God. When he returned, he faithfully communicated what God had commanded.

Moses did not change the message to suit the people’s preferences. He did not speak only comforting and encouraging words because they had just experienced the failure of worshipping the golden calf. Instead, he began by repeating the command concerning the Sabbath. He clearly told them what they should do and what they must not do.

Even though building the tabernacle was important and holy work, the people could not use it as a reason to ignore the Sabbath. This shows us that God is not only concerned about how much we do for Him. He also cares whether we do it according to His command.

Today, we can easily choose only the parts of God’s Word that we like. When His Word brings comfort, promises and blessings, we readily receive it. However, when His Word exposes our problems and asks us to repent, let go, or stop doing something, we may try to avoid it.

As leaders, we may also be tempted to preach only what people find easy to accept, while neglecting the whole counsel of God. We enjoy speaking about God’s grace, but we may hesitate to speak about His holiness, justice and boundaries.

However, a leader who truly loves people does not only tell them what they want to hear. A faithful leader tells them what they truly need to hear.

God’s grace cannot be separated from His truth, and His love cannot be separated from His justice. Grace without truth will not lead people to face the condition of their lives. Truth without grace may cause people to lose hope.

If we want to leave confusion behind and rediscover the right direction, the first step is not to seek more human opinions. It is to return to God’s Word and allow His commands to become the standard of our lives again.

  1. Turn the Conviction in Your Heart into Action

“And all the congregation of the children of Israel departed from the presence of Moses. Then everyone came whose heart was stirred, and everyone whose spirit was willing, and they brought the LORD’s offering for the work of the tabernacle of meeting, for all its service, and for the holy garments.” —Exodus 35:20–21, NKJV

After hearing the words Moses delivered, the people did not simply say, “That was a good message.” After leaving Moses, they began to respond to God with practical action.

Everyone whose heart was stirred and whose spirit was willing brought gold, silver, fabric, wood, spices, precious stones, time and skills for the building of the tabernacle.

In chapter 32, the people gave their gold to make the golden calf. In chapter 35, they willingly gave their possessions to God for the building of the tabernacle.

The same gold could be used to make an idol or to build God’s dwelling place. The issue was not what they possessed, but whom their hearts belonged to and into whose hands they were willing to place what they had.

This time, Moses did not force the people to give. He said: “Take from among you an offering to the LORD. Whoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it as an offering to the LORD.” —Exodus 35:5, NKJV

God was not only looking for their possessions. He was looking for hearts that had been touched by His grace and were willing to respond to Him.

Truly receiving God’s Word is not merely experiencing an emotional moment. It means responding in a practical way. When God’s Word truly enters our hearts, it will affect our choices, time, finances, relationships and direction in life.

We may shed tears during a worship service without changing the way we live. We may say that God’s Word is good without actually obeying it.

Conviction that does not become action may soon disappear. But when we are willing to take one step of obedience, that conviction begins to produce real transformation.

  1. Let Your God-Given Gifts Become a Blessing to Others

“And He has put in his heart the ability to teach, in him and Aholiab the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan.” —Exodus 35:34, NKJV

God called Bezalel and Aholiab and filled them with His Spirit. He gave them wisdom, understanding, knowledge and skill in all kinds of craftsmanship.

However, God did not only enable them to complete the work themselves. He also gave them the ability to teach others.

This is very precious. The wisdom, abilities and experiences God gives us are not only for our own use. He also wants us to teach, establish and equip others.

A gifted person may complete a task, but someone who can teach others can build a team and even influence the next generation.

Many times, we are willing to do the work ourselves, but we may not be willing to teach others patiently. Doing it ourselves may seem faster and may produce results closer to our own expectations. However, God’s purpose is not only for us to complete the work. He also wants us to build people.

Teaching was also part of the Great Commission given by Jesus: “Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you.” —Matthew 28:20, NKJV

God does not only want us to understand and obey the truth personally. He also wants us to have the faith and courage to teach others what we have received.

Mature ministry does not mean doing everything ourselves. It means sharing what we have received, teaching others and equipping them to serve God.

When we pass on the gifts, experience and truth God has given us, our lives will do more than complete the work before us. They will bless others and allow God’s work to continue into the next generation.

Conclusion

Exodus 35 shows us how a group of people who had failed and turned away from God could rise again through His grace.

Moses first listened to God and then faithfully communicated what God had commanded. After hearing God’s Word, the people’s hearts were stirred, and they responded by willingly giving and participating in the work. Bezalel and Aholiab received wisdom and ability from God, but they did not only serve personally—they also taught others.

Our lives will stop standing still when we:

  • Allow God’s Word to become the direction of our lives again;
  • Turn the conviction in our hearts into practical action;
  • Let our God-given gifts become a blessing to others.

God’s Word is not meant to remain only on the pulpit or in our ears. It must enter our hearts, transform our lives, and reach the lives of others through us.

Reflection

What is directing my decisions today—my own thoughts, the opinions of others, or what God has commanded?

When God’s Word exposes my problems and establishes boundaries, am I still willing to receive and obey it?

What has God recently placed upon my heart, and what practical step of obedience should I take?

Am I willing to teach others what God has given me so that more lives can be established and equipped?
