主啊,我現在有感覺,但我不要讓感覺作主;
我現在有慾望,但我不要讓慾望帶路;
一邊是「隨意挑選」;
一邊是人按眼目、血氣和喜好去取得;
與神同行,不是一時感動;
先停下來,不讓感覺作主;
再把選擇帶回神面前,重新分辨;
Dear family, peace to you.
Over these past few days, as we have read from Genesis 1 to Genesis 6, we can see that humanity did not move away from God all at once, but step by step.
In Genesis 3, people began to be drawn by what their eyes saw, and decisions were made according to desire rather than God’s word. In Genesis 4, sin entered human relationships, and Cain killed Abel. In Genesis 5, generation after generation continued, yet the repeated words “and he died” remind us that sin brought death into human history.
Today, in Genesis 6, sin has spread beyond one person or one family into the whole generation. Genesis 6:2 shows that people saw beauty and chose as they pleased. This reveals a life no longer led by God’s will, but by sight, feeling, desire, and the flesh.
Proverbs 19:14 reminds us that a prudent wife is from the Lord. This gives a clear contrast: Genesis 6 shows people choosing as they pleased; Proverbs reminds us that true blessing is received from God’s hand.
When people continue to follow the flesh, life does not become freer or fuller. It becomes limited, corrupted, and separated from God’s order. Yet Genesis 6 is not only about judgment. It is also about grace. In a corrupt generation, Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.
Today, God calls us not to be led by what we see, not to be ruled by feelings, and not to follow the flesh, but to return to Him and walk in His grace.
- Pause, and do not let feelings take control
Genesis 6:2
The first step toward the flesh often begins with a “seeing” that has not been brought before God. The people saw beauty and chose as they pleased. This was not only about marriage; it revealed a deeper issue of the heart: they allowed feelings and desires to take control.
We can easily do the same. When we hear something unpleasant, we want to respond immediately. When things do not go our way, we are quickly driven by emotion. When facing choices in relationships, family, work, finances, or service, we may first ask, “Do I like this? Do I want this? Does this fit my feeling?”
But the first step in leaving the flesh is to pause.
To pause is not to avoid the issue. It is to refuse to let feelings sit on the throne of our lives. It is to acknowledge that what I see may not be the whole picture, what I feel may not be accurate, and what I want may not be God’s will.
James 1:19-20
God teaches us to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger. Many broken places in life begin when we speak too quickly, react too quickly, or decide too quickly.
So when feelings rise, we can pray:
Lord, I have feelings, but I do not want my feelings to rule me.
I have desires, but I do not want my desires to lead me.
I have emotions, but I do not want my emotions to decide my response.
- Bring our choices back before God and discern again
Proverbs 19:14
Genesis 6:2 shows people choosing as they pleased. Proverbs 19:14 reminds us that true blessing comes from the Lord.
On one side is choosing by sight, desire, and personal preference.
On the other side is receiving, discerning, and treasuring before God.
A person who lives in the flesh sees and takes, likes and wants, feels it is right and then decides. But a person who walks in grace learns to bring choices back before God and ask:
Is this from God?
Does this please God?
Will this draw me closer to God?
Will this lead my life into His order?
Proverbs 3:5-6
To acknowledge God in all our ways means that our feelings are no longer the final answer. It means we allow God to adjust our direction. It means we believe what He gives is better than what we grasp by the flesh.
When we bring our choices back before God, we move from “choosing as we please” to “receiving from God.” This is not only a change of action; it is a transfer of lordship.
I no longer only ask what I want. I begin to ask what pleases God.
- Walk with God daily and live in grace
Genesis 6:8-9
The darkest place in Genesis 6 is also where grace shines most brightly. When the whole earth was corrupt before God, Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.
Noah did not live in an easy generation. He lived in a generation filled with flesh, corruption, violence, and confusion. Yet Scripture says that he was righteous, blameless in his generation, and walked with God.
Walking with God is not a momentary feeling.
It is giving God a place in daily life.
It is listening to Him in choices, reverencing Him in relationships, trusting Him under pressure, and refusing to leave Him even when the generation is confused.
Micah 6:8
Walking in grace means asking God each day:
Lord, how can I walk with You today?
How can my eyes return to You?
How can my choices be brought before You?
How can my response come from the Holy Spirit, not from the flesh?
When a person walks with God daily, they will not be easily swept away by the generation. Even when the environment is corrupt, they can still find grace before God.
Summary
Genesis 6 shows us that when people allow their eyes to move away from God, they will be drawn by feelings and desires. When they continue to follow feelings and desires, they move toward the flesh. When they live in the flesh for a long time, their thoughts, relationships, and life direction gradually become corrupted.
But God does not only show us corruption; He also shows us grace. When the whole earth was corrupt, Noah still found grace in the eyes of the Lord.
Today, God calls us to leave flesh and walk in grace:
Pause, and do not let feelings take control.
Bring our choices back before God and discern again.
Walk with God daily and live in His grace.
Reflection
When God’s word shines into our hearts, the Holy Spirit is not trying to condemn us. He is bringing us out of the flesh and back into grace.
Am I often drawn by what my eyes see, without bringing my heart back before God?
Do I allow feelings, emotions, or desires to make me speak too quickly, react too quickly, or decide too quickly?
Are there decisions I have already made in my heart, while only hoping that God will bless them?
Am I willing to be like Noah, not following the flesh in this generation, but walking with God daily?
This light is not meant to keep us in self-condemnation. It is meant to lead us back to the Father. When the Holy Spirit shows us where the flesh is still ruling, we can bring those areas to the Lord and allow His grace to enter again.
Prayer Response
Father, we come before You and acknowledge that many times we do not seek You first. Instead, we are drawn by what we see, by our feelings, desires, and flesh.
Lord, forgive us for often seeing and wanting, liking and taking, while forgetting that truly good blessings should be received from Your hand.
Holy Spirit, help us learn to pause and not let feelings take control. Help us bring our choices back before You and discern Your will again.
Father, lead us to walk with You daily. In our daily life, family, relationships, work, and service, help us no longer follow the flesh, but walk by the Holy Spirit.
Thank You that even in judgment, there is still grace. When the whole earth was corrupt, Noah still found grace in Your eyes. Today, we also desire to return before You and become people who find grace in Your eyes and walk with You.
May our eyes return to You. May our choices be placed in Your hands. May our lives leave the flesh. May we walk in Your grace every day.
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
Genesis 6
Now it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, 2 that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose.
3 And the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” 4 There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.
5 Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. 7 So the Lord said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.” 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.
9 This is the genealogy of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God. 10 And Noah begot three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.
13 And God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth. 14 Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch. 15 And this is how you shall make it: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits. 16 You shall make a window for the ark, and you shall finish it to a cubit from above; and set the door of the ark in its side. You shall make it with lower, second, and third decks. 17 And behold, I Myself am bringing floodwaters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die. 18 But I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall go into the ark—you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you. 19 And of every living thing of all flesh you shall bring two of every sort into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female. 20 Of the birds after their kind, of animals after their kind, and of every creeping thing of the earth after its kind, two of every kind will come to you to keep them alive. 21 And you shall take for yourself of all food that is eaten, and you shall gather it to yourself; and it shall be food for you and for them.”
22 Thus Noah did; according to all that God commanded him, so he did.
