19 April 2026 Sunday Message Sharing
Beloved Children, Imitate God
Scripture: Ephesians 5:1-21
Main Scripture:
“Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us.”
Ephesians 5:1-2
Today’s message reminds us that we do not first try to become better people by our own strength. We first need to see who we are: we are beloved children of God.
Because of this identity, our life, words, choices, relationships, and use of time should all begin from this truth. We are called to imitate God and live a life that pleases Him.
- Leave Impurity and Walk in Love
Ephesians 5:1-5
Paul begins by saying, “Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.” The word “therefore” connects this passage with the previous chapters of Ephesians. We have received grace, we have been saved in Christ, and we have been made new people.
Beloved children of God should not live in impurity, sexual immorality, greed, dirty speech, foolish talking, or words that hurt others. Instead, we learn to live like Christ.
Christ loved us and gave Himself for us. He became a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
Therefore, imitating God is not just an outward religious action. It is allowing the love of God to change the way we live.
When we know that we are loved, valued, and treasured by God, we no longer need to look for satisfaction through greed, lust, applause, approval, control, or selfish desire. We learn to live in love, speak in love, and treat others with love.
- Leave Darkness and Live as Children of Light
Ephesians 5:6-14
Paul then reminds us, “Let no one deceive you with empty words.” People can easily be pulled away by empty talk, gossip, hidden sin, and the ways of darkness. Slowly, a person may become used to living in darkness.
But the Bible says, “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.”
We are not only people who have seen the light. In the Lord, we have become children of light.
The fruit of the light is goodness, righteousness, and truth.
A person who lives in the light no longer lives secretly, thinking, “No one knows.” That is a lie from the enemy. God’s light is not meant to shame us, but to reveal, heal, and set us free.
God is calling those who are asleep to wake up. He is calling those who are spiritually dead to rise, because Christ wants to shine His light upon them.
Today, God does not want us to remain in darkness or self-deception. He is calling us back into the light, so that our lives can be restored, renewed, and changed.
- Do Not Be Foolish, But Be Filled with the Holy Spirit
Ephesians 5:15-21
Paul says, “See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise.”
A wise person knows how to redeem the time, because the days are evil. This world can distract us, numb us, lead us into careless living, and cause us to waste the time God has given us.
That is why the Bible says, “Do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” It also says, “Do not be drunk with wine… but be filled with the Spirit.”
Being filled with the Holy Spirit is not only about outward expression. It is about allowing the Holy Spirit to lead, correct, discipline, and renew our lives.
A Spirit-filled person has praise in the mouth, thanksgiving in the heart, and reverence for Christ in relationships.
Wherever they go, they do not bring gossip, conflict, or division. They bring unity, love, encouragement, and warmth.
A wise person is not someone who lives however they want. A wise person allows the Holy Spirit to guide and govern their life.
They do not waste time on useless things. They give their time to what pleases God. They do not allow bitterness to flow from their mouth. Instead, their life releases thanksgiving and blessing.
Summary:
Ephesians 5:1-21 gives us a very clear picture.
On one side, there is impurity, darkness, and foolishness. This is the way of the world and the enemy.
On the other side, there is love, light, and the Holy Spirit. This is the way of God’s life.
God’s desire is for us, His beloved children, to imitate Him and not imitate the world.
He calls us to leave darkness and live in the light. He calls us to leave foolishness and walk in wisdom. He calls us to leave impurity and greed, and to live in love and holiness.
The days are evil. The enemy wants people to become foolish, waste their time, and miss the will of God.
But the Holy Spirit leads us to become children of light. He helps us walk in love, live in the light, and be renewed in the Spirit, so that we can live according to the Father’s original purpose for us.
Reflection:
Today, let us quietly examine our hearts before God.
Are there still areas of impurity, greed, or hurtful speech in our lives?
Are there hidden thoughts, habits, or ways of living that we do not want God’s light to touch?
Are we wasting our time on things that have no lasting value, while neglecting what pleases God?
Are we living by our own strength, instead of allowing the Holy Spirit to fill, lead, and govern us?
God is not calling us to shame us. He is calling us to wake up.
Because we are His beloved children, the Father wants us to return to His love, live in His light, and be filled again with the Holy Spirit.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for loving us and making us Your beloved children in Christ.
Please forgive us for the times when we have not lived according to this identity. We have often been influenced by the world, drawn by darkness, trapped in foolishness, and careless with the time and life You have given us.
Lord, let Your light shine into our hearts. Help us to leave impurity, greed, empty words, and every work of darkness.
Help us not to be foolish, but to understand Your will, redeem the time, and live a life that pleases You.
Holy Spirit, fill us again. Govern our thoughts, our words, our choices, and our relationships.
Let there be praise in our mouths, thanksgiving in our hearts, and the fruit of goodness, righteousness, and truth in our lives.
May we no longer imitate the world, but imitate God.
May we no longer live in darkness, but live as children of light.
May we no longer waste our lives, but live in the Holy Spirit and fulfil the Father’s original purpose for us.
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we pray.
Amen.
