2026-04-24 Genesis 1 Return to the Beginning, Walk into Truth

Rev Xi An Poon

回到起初,就是回到真實的神面前;
回到起初,就是讓神的話重新進入我們裡面;

Today we begin our journey in Genesis 1. This chapter is not merely about how the world began. It is God bringing His people back to the root, so that they may know again who He is, who created the world, who man is, and where the order of all things comes from.

For the Israelites, who had just come out of Egypt and were in the wilderness preparing to enter covenant with God, this chapter was extremely important. They had lived in Egypt for four hundred years, surrounded by a culture of many gods, many beliefs, and great confusion. Heaven and earth, the sun and moon, animals and nature could all become objects of worship. When people live in such an environment for too long, they not only forget who God is, but they also forget who they are.

So in Genesis 1, God does not begin by dealing with man’s problems. He first brings everything back to “the beginning.” The earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, yet the Spirit of God was still moving. Then God spoke, and light appeared; confusion began to be ordered; life began to be established. In this chapter, “God said” appears nine times. Every time God spoke, it came to pass just as He said. God saw that it was good, and in the end it was not only good, but very good. This shows us that God’s original intention was not desolation, destruction, or emptiness, but order, life, fruitfulness, and blessing.

Today we also live in an age that easily loses its roots. When people leave God, order becomes confusion. When people return to the beginning, light comes in again. The Lord Jesus said that He is the way, the truth, and the life. Therefore, returning to the beginning is not simply going back to a point in history, but walking again into the truth God has revealed.

  1. Return to the beginning and first know the true God
    Scripture: Gen. 1:1

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

The first thing Genesis 1 corrects is our understanding of God. In the beginning, it was not the sun, moon, or stars that ruled. It was not nature that ruled, nor man himself. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

This was important for Israel then, and it is equally important for us today. If a person does not know who God is, the whole order of his life will be disordered. If money, emotions, circumstances, success, fear, relationships, or even our deepest needs slowly take the place of God, then although we may say with our lips that we believe in Him, our lives may not truly be aligned with Him.

So returning to the beginning does not begin with asking why God allowed confusion to happen. It begins with acknowledging again that only God is God. When we know Him again as Creator, Ruler, and the source of life, the roots within us begin to be set right again.

  1. Return to the beginning and let God’s word lead us into truth
    Scripture: Gen. 1:2-3; 1:3, 6, 9, 11, 14, 20, 24, 26, 29

“The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light.”

The earth did not begin with light and order already in place. Scripture tells us honestly that it was formless, empty, and dark. This is also like certain seasons in our lives: outwardly things seem to continue, yet inwardly there is confusion; on the surface things appear calm, yet deep inside there is darkness; we know we need change, but we do not know where to begin.

But thanks be to God, above the chaos, His Spirit was still moving; in the darkness, God still spoke. In this chapter, “God said” appears nine times, and every time He spoke, it came to pass. This shows us that what truly leads a person into truth is not human ideas, not the trends of the world, and not the voice of culture, but the word of God Himself.

If we are to walk into truth today, it cannot be only a mental agreement with spiritual ideas. We must allow God’s word to truly enter into us. For when God speaks, light comes in; when God speaks, boundaries become clear; when God speaks, life begins to be restored. Jesus said that He is the truth. Therefore, to walk into truth is to return to His word and let His light shine into our lives.

  1. Return to the beginning and live in God’s original blessing and order
    Scripture: Gen. 1:28-31

The end of God’s creation was not desolation, but blessing; not death, but the continuation of life; not extinction, but fruitfulness; not confusion, but a very good order.

God created plants with seeds and fruit. God created living creatures with the ability to reproduce and continue. God created man and blessed him, telling him to be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth. This shows us that God’s original intention was for life to live within His blessing and order, to receive, continue, expand, and fill.

But today the world increasingly shows a very different picture: creation is abused, life is treated lightly, many species are facing extinction, and people are losing both hope and respect for the continuation of life. This is not God’s original intention. It is the result of man leaving truth and leaving the order God established.

So returning to the beginning is not simply looking back at how creation started. It is to live again in God’s original intention. He wants our lives to return to His order, our families to return to His design, and His church to return to His root and His truth.

Summary

Genesis 1 brings us back to a very foundational place: everything must begin with God. When man leaves the beginning, life becomes disordered. When man returns to the beginning, light enters again. Today God is not only showing us how the world began, but calling us to know Him again, hear Him again, and live again in His original intention.

To return to the beginning is to return to the true God.
To return to the beginning is to let God’s word enter us again.
To return to the beginning is to live again in God’s blessing and order.

Reflection

Today let us quietly ask ourselves:
Have I moved away from my original reverence for God?
Have I allowed other voices to replace the word of God?
Do I need to return to God again and let Him reorder my life?

Today the Lord is not condemning us. He is calling us back. Return to the beginning, know Him again, hear Him again, and walk again into truth.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You that in the beginning, You created the heavens and the earth, and above the chaos and darkness, Your Spirit was still moving. Bring us back today to the beginning, back to Your presence, and back to Your word. If there is still confusion in our lives, speak. If there is still darkness within us, shine. If we have drifted from Your will, gently bring us back. Lord Jesus, You are the way, the truth, and the life. Lead us to truly walk into truth and live in truth. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Genesis 1

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.

6 Then God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.” 7 Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so. 8 And God called the firmament Heaven. So the evening and the morning were the second day.

9 Then God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so. 10 And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas. And God saw that it was good.

11 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so. 12 And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 13 So the evening and the morning were the third day.

14 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; 15 and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. 16 Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also. 17 God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth, 18 and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 So the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

20 Then God said, “Let the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the firmament of the heavens.” 21 So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” 23 So the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

24 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind”; and it was so. 25 And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

29 And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. 30 Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food”; and it was so. 31 Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
