祂不是要我們先證明自己配得,才准我們靠近;
Today we come to Psalm 15. David begins by asking, “LORD, who may abide in Your tabernacle? Who may dwell in Your holy hill?” This is not a question of someone boasting before God that he is qualified. Neither is it a cold checklist of spiritual requirements. More deeply, it is the wonder of a person who has received grace, standing before God with reverence and gratitude: someone like me, and yet God still allows me to come near Him and dwell in His presence.
From Psalm 1 to Psalm 15, we have seen human wandering, confusion, struggle, and cries for help. At the same time, we have seen how God watches, preserves, and calls people back to Himself. Now in Psalm 15, God brings us back to something foundational: true restoration is not merely that our outward situation improves, but that our hearts return to God and our lives begin once again to live before Him.
- First, return to God’s presence
“LORD, who may abide in Your tabernacle? Who may dwell in Your holy hill?” (Psalm 15:1)
Many times, what we want is God’s help, but not God Himself. We want our problems solved quickly, but not a heart that truly turns back to Him. Yet Psalm 15 brings us back to the first and most important step: return to God’s presence.
This is like the story of the prodigal son. The most precious part was not the robe, the ring, or the feast afterward. It was that he was finally willing to come home and return to his father. In the same way, God is not first asking whether we are worthy. He is first calling us to come back. Every restoration begins by returning to Him. Every rebuilding begins when the heart truly turns back.
- Let your life return to truth
“He who walks uprightly, and works righteousness, and speaks the truth in his heart.” (Psalm 15:2)
“He who does not backbite with his tongue, nor does evil to his neighbor, nor does he take up a reproach against his friend.” (Psalm 15:3)
This does not mean that we must first achieve all these things before God accepts us. Rather, it means that a person who truly lives before the Lord will gradually be brought back into truth. God’s presence will not remain only in the gathering or in worship. It will enter our hearts, our words, our relationships, and our attitudes.
God is not simply looking for people who appear good on the outside. He desires people who are real. True before Him, true before others, true in the heart, true in the mouth, true in worship, and true in daily life. When we are willing to remain before the Lord, He begins to deal with the hidden places of falsehood, confusion, and self-hiding within us.
- Stand firm before the Lord
“He who does these things shall never be moved.” (Psalm 15:5)
When a person truly lives before the Lord, life does not only return; it also becomes steady. Many people are easily shaken not only because the storms around them are strong, but because their roots have not yet truly returned to God. But David shows us here that when a person truly abides in God’s presence, that life begins to grow roots. And when there are roots, that life is no longer so easily shaken.
This also echoes Psalm 1. Psalm 1 says that the one planted by the rivers of water will not wither. Psalm 15 says that the one who dwells before the Lord will not be moved. From Psalm 1 to Psalm 15, God has been doing the same work all along: calling people back from wandering and replanting their roots in Himself.
Summary
Today, God is not trying to shut us out. He is bringing us back to the root, back to Himself. When we truly live before the Lord, He will gradually bring our lives back into truth, stability, and the place they were meant to have from the beginning.
And this also opens the way for our journey into Genesis, beginning tomorrow. Today, through Psalm 15, God calls us back to Himself. Tomorrow, through Genesis 1, He will continue to lead us back to the beginning, back to creation, and back to His original intention. May we not merely finish reading a psalm, but truly return to the root and live before the Lord.
Pursuit
Yet many times, although we are in the life of faith, our hearts are not truly living before the Lord.
Sometimes we want God’s help, but not God Himself.
Sometimes we want an outward solution, but we do not want an inward turning.
Sometimes we still gather and worship outwardly, yet inwardly we remain scattered, drifting, and without root.
Sometimes we think we are following God, but we are only living in habit, while the deeper parts of our lives have not truly been touched and reordered by Him.
Sometimes we are like the prodigal son, wanting to come home, yet still living in shame, self-blame, and hesitation, not daring to believe that the Father is still waiting with open arms.
But today, God is not condemning us. He is calling us back.
He is not asking us to prove that we are worthy before we come near.
He is first finding us with His love, and then bringing our lives back into right order in His presence.
Prayer Response
Dear Heavenly Father,
We thank You that people like us are still remembered by You, still called by You, and still welcomed into Your presence.
Lord, we confess that many times we seek Your help more than we seek You. We focus on how our problems can be solved, but not on whether our hearts are truly living before You. Please forgive us and have mercy on us.
Today, bring us back to the root, bring us back to Yourself. Bring into Your light every place of drifting, falsehood, distraction, self-protection, and outward religion within us. Let us not merely appear close to You outwardly, but truly turn back to You inwardly and live again before You.
Lord, also bring our lives back into truth. Renew our hearts, renew our words, renew our relationships, and renew our values and choices. Let us not be moved only for a moment, but let us truly be established by You. Let us not merely return once, but truly dwell in You with deep roots.
Thank You that You do not shut us out, but bring us home.
Thank You that You do not first demand from us, but first embrace us with love.
Thank You that You still allow us to come near You and live before You.
In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, Amen.
Psalm 15
A Psalm of David.
Lord, who may abide in Your tabernacle?
Who may dwell in Your holy hill?
2 He who walks uprightly,
And works righteousness,
And speaks the truth in his heart;
3 He who does not backbite with his tongue,
Nor does evil to his neighbor,
Nor does he take up a reproach against his friend;
4 In whose eyes a vile person is despised,
But he honors those who fear the Lord;
He who swears to his own hurt and does not change;
5 He who does not put out his money at usury,
Nor does he take a bribe against the innocent.
He who does these things shall never be moved.
