Psalm 14 begins with David saying, “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God.’” This does not mean those people had never heard of God. It means they knew about God, yet lived as if He were not there. They did not honor God as God, and they did not treat His word as truth. They still chose to live by their own way.
So this psalm is not only showing us outward corruption. It is showing us something deeper: the center of man’s life has shifted. When people no longer live with God at the center, life slowly becomes disordered. And when a whole generation no longer keeps God at the center, people influence one another and begin to drift away together.
But thank God, this psalm does not end in darkness. Even when people turn away, God still looks down from heaven. Even when a generation becomes distorted, God still reigns. Even when the poor and afflicted are oppressed, the Lord is still their refuge. In the end, David lifts our eyes to Zion and shows us that true salvation does not come from man, but from the presence of God.
- Return from drifting away
(Psalm 14:1)
A life centered on God begins with returning from spiritual drift. Many times, it is not that we do not believe in God. It is that, little by little, we let ourselves take control. We let our feelings lead us. We let our circumstances decide for us. Today, God reminds us to turn back and let Him take His rightful place again. When a person truly turns back, life begins to return to the right path.
- Realign before God
(Psalm 14:2-3)
God looks down from heaven to see whether anyone understands and whether anyone seeks Him. In a generation where people influence each other and drift away together, God is still looking for those who are willing to return to Him. Today, we must not simply follow the voices around us. We need to realign ourselves before God and let His eyes correct our direction. Let His word become the standard for our lives again.
- Regain stability in God’s presence
(Psalm 14:5-7)
Although the poor may be oppressed and shamed, the Lord is still their refuge. David ends by saying that salvation comes out of Zion. This shows us that true rescue and true restoration come from the presence of God. When we return to Him and come back into His presence, the unrest within us can become still. Even in hardship, we can regain stability, peace, and hope.
Summary
Psalm 14 reminds us that when people no longer live with God at the center, both life and society slowly fall into disorder. But when a person is willing to return, realign before God, and come back into His presence, he can regain the right path, stability, and hope. May we not live centered on ourselves or on our circumstances today, but truly live a life centered on God.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Please shine Your light on every area of our lives that is not truly centered on You. Lead us back from drifting away. Help us realign ourselves before You. Bring us back into Your presence, where we can regain stability, peace, and hope. May we no longer live by our own way, but truly let You be Lord over our lives. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
Psalm 14
The fool has said in his heart,
“There is no God.”
They are corrupt,
They have done abominable works,
There is none who does good.
2 The Lordlooks down from heaven upon the children of men,
To see if there are any who understand, who seek God.
3 They have all turned aside,
They have together become corrupt;
There is none who does good,
No, not one.
4 Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge,
Who eat up my people asthey eat bread,
And do not call on the Lord?
5 There they are in great fear,
For God iswith the generation of the righteous.
6 You shame the counsel of the poor,
But the Lordis his refuge.
7 Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion!
When the Lord brings back the captivity of His people,
Let Jacob rejoice andIsrael be glad.
