Good morning, family.
Yesterday in Psalm 11, we saw that the Lord is still in His holy temple, and His throne is still in heaven. Today in Psalm 12, the psalm brings us back to the reality on earth: the godly are fading, the faithful seem to disappear, and people are full of lies, flattery, and proud words. It is a generation of confusion, where truth feels rare and many voices compete for our attention.
But the precious thing in this psalm is not only that it shows us how broken the world is. It also shows us that when earthly voices become noisy and unreliable, God has not become silent. When human words cannot be trusted, God still speaks. When the poor are oppressed and the needy are sighing, God still sees, God still knows, and God still rises.
Today, Psalm 12 teaches us how to hear that God still speaks, even in a confused generation.
- Turn your heart back to God, and you will hear His voice again
(Psalm 12:1-2)
David did not begin by arguing with people or reacting to the environment. He began by crying out to God: “Help, Lord.” When everything around him was full of falsehood and disappointment, he did not stay trapped in human voices. He turned his heart back to God.
It is the same for us. If our hearts are filled first with pressure, fear, and the noise around us, it becomes very hard to hear God clearly. But when we turn back to Him and admit our need of Him, our inner ears begin to open again.
- Give the lordship back to God, and you will not be led by other voices
(Psalm 12:3-4)
The wicked say, “Who is lord over us?” This is not only pride. It is a refusal to let God be Lord.
Many times, what blocks us from hearing God is not only the voices outside us, but also the voices within us—our fears, emotions, frustrations, and personal opinions. When these things take the place of lordship in our hearts, we slowly lose clarity. But when we once again bow before God and acknowledge that He is Lord, our hearts become steady and clear.
- Stand on God’s word, and you will remain steady in confusion
(Psalm 12:5-8)
The turning point of this psalm is this: “The Lord says.” Human words can be false, but God’s words are pure. Human voices can be proud and misleading, but God’s voice is true and trustworthy.
God says that He sees the oppression of the poor and hears the sighing of the needy. He says, “Now I will arise.” Even if the environment does not change immediately, and even if evil still seems to move freely, God’s word still stands, and His protection is still real. What makes us steady is not that the world suddenly becomes quiet, but that God’s word becomes our foundation.
Summary
Today, Psalm 12 reminds us:
In confusion, do not listen only to earthly voices.
In a generation of mixed truth and falsehood, do not focus only on people’s reactions.
In disappointment and pressure, return again to God.
Because God still speaks.
God still sees.
God still rises.
God still protects those who belong to Him.
Today we can quietly ask ourselves:
What is the loudest voice in my heart recently—God’s voice or the voice of my circumstances?
Do I say that I trust God, while allowing something else to rule my heart?
Am I still willing to stand on God’s pure word in this generation?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You that when human words are unreliable, Your word is still pure. When this generation is full of confusion, You still speak. When there is sighing within us, You still see. Please bring our hearts back to You. Do not let us be taken over by circumstances or controlled by human voices. Help us to acknowledge again that You are Lord, and to stand again on Your word. Speak to us today. Give us peace in confusion, direction in darkness, and faith in this generation. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
Psalm 12
To the Chief Musician. On an eight-stringed harp. A Psalm of David.
Help, Lord, for the godly man ceases!
For the faithful disappear from among the sons of men.
2 They speak idly everyone with his neighbor;
With flattering lips and a double heart they speak.
3 May the Lord cut off all flattering lips,
And the tongue that speaks proud things,
4 Who have said,
“With our tongue we will prevail;
Our lips are our own;
Who is lord over us?”
5 “For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy,
Now I will arise,” says the Lord;
“I will set him in the safety for which he yearns.”
6 The words of the Lord are pure words,
Like silver tried in a furnace of earth,
Purified seven times.
7 You shall keep them, O Lord,
You shall preserve them from this generation forever.
8 The wicked prowl on every side,
When vileness is exalted among the sons of men.
