在亞伯拉罕的日子那地有一次饑荒，這時又有饑荒，以撒就往基拉耳去，到非利士人的王亞比米勒那裡。2 耶和華向以撒顯現，說：「你不要下埃及去，要住在我所指示你的地。 3 你寄居在這地，我必與你同在，賜福給你，因為我要將這些地都賜給你和你的後裔，我必堅定我向你父亞伯拉罕所起的誓。4 我要加增你的後裔，像天上的星那樣多，又要將這些地都賜給你的後裔，並且地上萬國必因你的後裔得福。 5 都因亞伯拉罕聽從我的話，遵守我的吩咐和我的命令、律例、法度。」
6 以撒就住在基拉耳。7 那地方的人問到他的妻子，他便說：「那是我的妹子。」原來他怕說「是我的妻子」。他心裡想：「恐怕這地方的人為利百加的緣故殺我，因為她容貌俊美。」 8 他在那裡住了許久。有一天，非利士人的王亞比米勒從窗戶裡往外觀看，見以撒和他的妻子利百加戲玩。9 亞比米勒召了以撒來，對他說：「她實在是你的妻子，你怎麼說她是你的妹子？」以撒說：「我心裡想，恐怕我因她而死。」 10 亞比米勒說：「你向我們做的是什麼事呢？民中險些有人和你的妻同寢，把我們陷在罪裡！」 11 於是亞比米勒曉諭眾民說：「凡沾著這個人，或是他妻子的，定要把他治死。」
12 以撒在那地耕種，那一年有百倍的收成。耶和華賜福給他， 13 他就昌大，日增月盛，成了大富戶。 14 他有羊群、牛群，又有許多僕人，非利士人就嫉妒他。 15 當他父親亞伯拉罕在世的日子他父親的僕人所挖的井，非利士人全都塞住，填滿了土。 16 亞比米勒對以撒說：「你離開我們去吧，因為你比我們強盛得多。」 17 以撒就離開那裡，在基拉耳谷支搭帳篷，住在那裡。
18 當他父親亞伯拉罕在世之日所挖的水井，因非利士人在亞伯拉罕死後塞住了，以撒就重新挖出來，仍照他父親所叫的叫那些井的名字。19 以撒的僕人在谷中挖井，便得了一口活水井。 20 基拉耳的牧人與以撒的牧人爭競，說：「這水是我們的。」以撒就給那井起名叫埃色，因為他們和他相爭。 21 以撒的僕人又挖了一口井，他們又為這井爭競，因此以撒給這井起名叫西提拿。 22 以撒離開那裡，又挖了一口井，他們不為這井爭競了，他就給那井起名叫利河伯。他說：「耶和華現在給我們寬闊之地，我們必在這地昌盛。」
23 以撒從那裡上別是巴去。 24 當夜耶和華向他顯現，說：「我是你父親亞伯拉罕的神，不要懼怕，因為我與你同在，要賜福給你，並要為我僕人亞伯拉罕的緣故，使你的後裔繁多。」 25 以撒就在那裡築了一座壇，求告耶和華的名，並且支搭帳篷。他的僕人便在那裡挖了一口井。
26 亞比米勒同他的朋友亞戶撒和他的軍長非各，從基拉耳來見以撒。 27 以撒對他們說：「你們既然恨我，打發我走了，為什麼到我這裡來呢？」 28 他們說：「我們明明地看見耶和華與你同在，便說，不如我們兩下彼此起誓，彼此立約，29 使你不害我們，正如我們未曾害你，一味地厚待你，並且打發你平平安安地走。你是蒙耶和華賜福的了。」30 以撒就為他們設擺筵席，他們便吃了喝了。 31 他們清早起來彼此起誓。以撒打發他們走，他們就平平安安地離開他走了。 32 那一天，以撒的僕人來，將挖井的事告訴他，說：「我們得了水了。」 33 他就給那井起名叫示巴。因此那城叫做別是巴，直到今日。
34 以掃四十歲的時候，娶了赫人比利的女兒猶滴與赫人以倫的女兒巴實抹為妻。 35 她們常使以撒和利百加心裡愁煩。
Genesis 26
There was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines, in Gerar.
2 Then the Lordappeared to him and said: “Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land of which I shall tell you. 3 Dwell in this land, and I will be with you and bless you; for to you and your descendants I give all these lands, and I will perform the oath which I swore to Abraham your father. 4 And I will make your descendants multiply as the stars of heaven; I will give to your descendants all these lands; and in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed; 5 because Abraham obeyed My voice and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws.”
6 So Isaac dwelt in Gerar. 7 And the men of the place asked about his wife. And he said, “She is my sister”; for he was afraid to say, “She ismy wife,” because he thought, “lest the men of the place kill me for Rebekah, because she isbeautiful to behold.” 8 Now it came to pass, when he had been there a long time, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked through a window, and saw, and there was Isaac, showing endearment to Rebekah his wife. 9 Then Abimelech called Isaac and said, “Quite obviously she is your wife; so how could you say, ‘She ismy sister’?”
Isaac said to him, “Because I said, ‘Lest I die on account of her.’ ”
10 And Abimelech said, “What is this you have done to us? One of the people might soon have lain with your wife, and you would have brought guilt on us.” 11 So Abimelech charged all hispeople, saying, “He who touches this man or his wife shall surely be put to death.”
12 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and the Lordblessed him. 13 The man began to prosper, and continued prospering until he became very prosperous; 14 for he had possessions of flocks and possessions of herds and a great number of servants. So the Philistines envied him. 15 Now the Philistines had stopped up all the wells which his father’s servants had dug in the days of Abraham his father, and they had filled them with earth. 16 And Abimelech said to Isaac, “Go away from us, for you are much mightier than we.”
17 Then Isaac departed from there and pitched his tent in the Valley of Gerar, and dwelt there. 18 And Isaac dug again the wells of water which they had dug in the days of Abraham his father, for the Philistines had stopped them up after the death of Abraham. He called them by the names which his father had called them.
19 Also Isaac’s servants dug in the valley, and found a well of running water there. 20 But the herdsmen of Gerar quarreled with Isaac’s herdsmen, saying, “The water isours.” So he called the name of the well Esek, because they quarreled with him. 21 Then they dug another well, and they quarreled over that one also. So he called its name Sitnah. 22 And he moved from there and dug another well, and they did not quarrel over it. So he called its name Rehoboth, because he said, “For now the Lord has made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.”
23 Then he went up from there to Beersheba. 24 And the Lord appeared to him the same night and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham; do not fear, for I am with you. I will bless you and multiply your descendants for My servant Abraham’s sake.” 25 So he built an altar there and called on the name of the Lord, and he pitched his tent there; and there Isaac’s servants dug a well.
26 Then Abimelech came to him from Gerar with Ahuzzath, one of his friends, and Phichol the commander of his army. 27 And Isaac said to them, “Why have you come to me, since you hate me and have sent me away from you?”
28 But they said, “We have certainly seen that the Lord is with you. So we said, ‘Let there now be an oath between us, between you and us; and let us make a covenant with you, 29 that you will do us no harm, since we have not touched you, and since we have done nothing to you but good and have sent you away in peace. You are now the blessed of the Lord.’ ”
30 So he made them a feast, and they ate and drank. 31 Then they arose early in the morning and swore an oath with one another; and Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.
32 It came to pass the same day that Isaac’s servants came and told him about the well which they had dug, and said to him, “We have found water.” 33 So he called it Shebah. Therefore the name of the city isBeersheba to this day.
34 When Esau was forty years old, he took as wives Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite. 35 And they were a grief of mind to Isaac and Rebekah.
