Rev Daniel Poon
On Father’s Day, we honor and thank every father for their dedication, sacrifice, and silent love. Fathers carry immense responsibility—working hard to provide, planning for their children’s future, and often suppressing their own emotions to avoid worrying their families. Society expects fathers to be strong, successful, and unwavering, which can lead many to feel isolated and overwhelmed.
The greatest gift we can offer fathers today is not material or verbal appreciation, but the invitation to return to the presence of God. Earthly fathers need a Father too—our Heavenly Father—whose love, guidance, and provision are perfect and unchanging. To support fathers, we must understand the heart of our Heavenly Father. Scripture reveals three truths about Him:
The Father’s Provision Is Abundant
Matthew 7:11 reminds us, “How much more will your Father who is in heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him.” Earthly fathers want the best for their children, but face limitations in money, time, and strength. God’s provision, however, never runs dry. He knows our real needs and supplies them at the right time. When families are placed in His hands, they live not in fear but in the abundance of His grace.
A powerful example is Billy Graham’s father, an ordinary farmer during the Great Depression. Feeling inadequate, he prayed, “Lord, I have nothing to give my children, but please lead them in your ways.” God answered that prayer beyond expectation—Billy Graham became one of the most influential evangelists of the 20th century. This story reminds us that while earthly fathers may feel limited, God’s power and provision are limitless.
This message is not just for fathers, but for mothers and children too. We all struggle with expressing love, relying on our own plans, and living under stress. The best gift this Father’s Day is to remind fathers they are not alone—God is with them. Families should support fathers in prayer and entrust them to God. Together, we return to the embrace of our Heavenly Father and receive His love, guidance, and provision.
The Father’s Love Is Perfect
Psalm 103:13 says, “As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.” While earthly fathers love deeply, their love can be limited by time, stress, or misunderstanding. Heavenly Father’s love, however, is unconditional. He loves us not because we are perfect, but because we are His children. When fathers experience this perfect love, they are empowered to love their families more fully and authentically.
The Father’s Guidance Is Real
Proverbs 3:5–6 encourages us to “Trust in the LORD with all your heart… and He will make straight your paths.” Fathers often strive to create the best future for their children, but human wisdom is limited. What seems ideal may not be what their children truly need. God’s guidance is trustworthy and precise. When fathers entrust their families to Him, He leads them on the right path. A father who follows God’s lead teaches his children to do the same.
