Rev Daniel Poon
In the beginning, God created the world and said it was “very good” (Genesis 1:31). He gave people everything they needed — air, water, food, and beauty (Psalm 104:10–15). But because of sin, the world is now full of problems like pollution and disasters. People turned away from God and lost the blessings He planned for them.
In Exodus 19, God speaks to His people again. He reminds them that He saved them and wants them to walk with Him in a new and blessed life. This message is not just about the past — it’s for us today.
The first step is to remember who leads us. In verse 4, God says, “I carried you on eagles’ wings.” This reminds us that God is strong and caring. He has helped us before and continues to carry us when we are weak. When we look back, we can see how God has guided us, even when things were hard.
The second step is to respond to God’s invitation. In verse 5, God says, “If you obey me and keep my covenant…” This shows that the journey with God needs a response. It does not happen automatically. God invites us into a relationship where we listen to Him and follow His Word. In Hebrew, the word “Shema” means to hear and obey. We are called not just to hear God’s Word like advice, but to live by it as truth.
The third step is to live as God’s people. In verse 6, God says, “You will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.” This is about our identity. We are not just people who follow rules — we belong to God. A priest is someone who can talk to God and bless others. To be holy means to live differently from the world, to live for God.
God has prepared a beautiful journey for each of us. But many people do not take it. We need to stop and reflect: What is holding us back? Do we only see the problems and forget how God has helped us? Do we hear God’s Word but not follow it? Do we live just like everyone else, instead of as God’s child? Are we afraid or stuck in past hurt or shame?
Today, God is speaking to us. His invitation is clear. Will you let go of what holds you back? Will you walk with Him and receive the blessings He has prepared for you?
