Rev Daniel Xi An Poon
God created us for one purpose, to have an intimate relationship with Him. But the world tells us otherwise, the world wants us to enjoy entertainment and to seek opportunities outside of God’s plans for us. We must ask ourselves, if we focus on the purpose of our creation, then we won’t have worries and fears. God does not create problems in our lives, but our free will and our decisions create the problems in our lives. While we are praying and fasting, may God help us to set our specs apart, and to seek unity.
What does unity have anything to do with praying and fasting? In John 17:21, Jesus was talking to His disciples and His followers, who paid a price to follow Jesus wholeheartedly. Jesus told them His Will for them is to have unity, only when we are in unity, we can be more like the Trinity God. Our lives should not be in a competition, we are not comparing with others to see what they have and what we don’t have, but to focus on God, trust that what God has given to us is the best.
Why should we be united?
- It is Jesus’ desire
- Unity is a testimony
- Unity gives strength
To be in unity is not to be like everyone else, but to see God’s Will for us and for others, and support one another to fulfill our individual purpose in God. When we are by ourselves, then it’s easy for us to enter into temptation. So we need the body of Christ to help us not going astray.
What areas of Unity does the Bible teach?
- Unity with God
- Unity with each other
- Unity in the family
The Bible tells us to love our neighbours as ourselves, to love those who are around us. When our brothers and sisters are in need, we can lend a helping hand, and when they walk away from the Will of God, we can help to bring them back.
What stops Unity?
- Self-centreness
- Pride and competition
- Unforgiveness
Jesus used His life testimony to teach us that He never asks for His own benefits, He only seeks to follow the truth, and He will never cross the line. Even when w High Priest prosecuted Him and misjudged Him, He didn’t say anything for Himself. He didn’t even fight when He was on the cross. Jesus has given us the authority from Heaven and earth, we don’t have to fight for ourselves, we don’t need to complain about anyone, because God will fight for us.
The blessings of Unity:
- God’s presence and blessings
- Power and effectiveness
- Love and joy
Unity is a blessing, we don’t need to force Unity, because when we know God’s Will, when we stop seeing ourselves more than we should, when we focus on the Father, then we can enter true unity, and our lives will be full of blessings.
How to live in Unity?
- Be humble and put others first
- Forgive and choose love
- Stay connected to Jesus
