Rev Daniel Xi An Poon

Holiness is important for Christians, the followers of Christ, we must know who our God really is. 1 Peter 1:15-16 tells us Who God is. Apostle Peter told us God is a holy God, but what is holy? Being holy is not just something we have to do, but something we do because it’s from the heart.

Being holy is a decision, because God gives us free will to choose, we can choose the follow God or not to follow God, He will not force us. When we chose to follow God, we chose to believe our identity. Our faith is being challenged all the time, even we might challenge ourselves. But true faith is when we believe, we really believe, as the followers of Christ, we don’t follow God with a consumer mindset, we don’t follow God only because we want something in return. We follow because it’s our choice.

Our focus should be renewed, it’s not about how big our church is, or the feedback of our congregation, but about what God really wants to say to us. When church calls us to join the fasting and praying, what is our attitude? Do we take it as it belongs to us? Or do we judge and criticise? Being holy is about who we are and where we belong. We have a Christian name tag but we seem to live a life like the non Christian’s.

We want to live like the people of the world do, slowly we will forget who we really are. God told Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt so they could set themselves apart as holy. We should no longer compare with others, instead of seeing what we don’t have, we should see what we have and treasure everything that’s given to us. God wants to give us the best, but we need to live a holy life, we belong to God and this is powerful. Our value is in the presence of the holiness of our Lord.
