Changing Habits (The Key to Experience Abundant Life)

I. Habits are What We Cultivate

Most of our habits in personality, conduct, character, relationships, thinking, and behavior are learned. They are habits developed over many years, especially habits of thought.

“For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” – Proverbs 23:7

The same event leads to different emotions and actions. Thoughts → Emotions → Actions.

II. How to Change Habits to Experience Prosperity?

Why is it hard to form good habits?

      I. Lack of knowledge
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” – Hosea 4:6a

      II. Laziness
“The soul of a lazy man desires and has nothing; but the soul of the diligent shall be made rich.” – Proverbs 13:4a

III. Training oneself to think in a defeated way
“We were like grasshoppers in our own sight.” – Numbers 13:33

      IV. No goals
      V. Complacency

      Why Are Habits So Important?

        I. Because we have sinful habits of the flesh
“I find then a law, that evil is present with me.” – Romans 7:21

II. Experiencing prosperity starts with changing habits
“We also should walk in newness of life.” – Romans 6:4

Experiencing prosperity starts with changing habits

“And he said to me, ‘The LORD, before whom I walk, will send His angel with you and prosper your way; and you shall take a wife for my son from my family and from my father’s house.’” – Genesis 24:40

“But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night.” – Psalm 1:2

The Key from Decision to Formation: Discipline

        I. The pain of transformation

        II. Continuous repeated practice
        a. Checking against God’s Word
        b. Practicing spiritual vision

“The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!” – Matthew 6:22-23

“Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” – Matthew 7:4-5
