Ps Kathy Poon
How do we teach our children? The harder we work and the more we will receive in life? We always talk about love at church, but we often think love is not everything, we feel that love cannot feed us or provide a roof over our lives. We know Jesus loves us, but we often want to have our problems solved before we talk about love. What does God’s love really mean to us? People nowadays have a lot but it seems that the more we have the more problems we have. Rev Daniel has been to Vanuatu for mission trip and the people there are very happy, even though they may not have much. Can God’s love really mean everything to us?
John 14:6
Without Jesus we cannot go to the Father. We pray for Jesus and we cry out to Jesus. Because in the Bible we see lots of things Jesus did, heal the sick, cast out demons, feed 5000 people… we thought believing in Jesus we can have all our problems solved, like a genie, when we make a wish the wish will come true. Is this how we see the love of Jesus and the love of God? This is not the Truth, this should not be in our foundation of belief, we must build a connection with God, not just seek Him when we need something.
When we share about the love of the Father, we are not receiving a knowledge bit to receive with love. If we cannot fully receive this love then we will not be able to share this love. In John 14:7, knowing God is like having an intimacy between husband and wife. When we really have this intimacy then we will really know God, and not just once but continue to happen. In Hosea 2:19, God makes us His bride, His wife, His beloved, and when this love is revealed to us, then we can truely receive Jesus and we can be satisfied.
John 14:12 tells us that everything Jesus did was because the Father was in Him. Only because of this relationship, Jesus was able to go on the cross. Why do we often tired and weary? Because we don’t have the Father in us, and us in Him. We are brought up to be independent, to be responsible, and to rely on ourselves. But when we are strong, does it mean we don’t need God anymore? When we are able to solve our problems by ourselves, do we still call out to Jesus? This is the world’s system and value, it lies to us so we will no longer feel the need to rely on God. But this is not the Truth.
The phrase, ‘believe in Jesus and receive Eternal Life’ does not just mean to go to heaven after death. A life that connects with the Father is eternal, and it starts the moment we believe in Jesus. When we become believers we are connected with God. We must turn from knowledge in the mind, information, to understanding and receiving in the heart, revelation.
Also we are easy to feel discouraged by the actions of other people, we may see some people who don’t have good actions or who don’t make good decisions but God still seems to bless them anyway. And that makes us doubt about God’s love for us. But we are looking at it from the wrong perspectives. At the end of the day, we all need to be accountable to God, we are responsible for our own relationship with the Father. God is the Trinity God, Jesus came to save us and reveal the love of the Father to us; Holy Spirit lives within us so we can experience the Kingdom of Heaven on this earth, and pours out the love of the Father down to us. Both Jesus and the Holy Spirit point us to the Father.
When we got baptised, we died and are buried with Jesus, and when we come out from the water, we are hidden in the Father along with Jesus. The Father’s love is everything to us, He is seeking us and still looking for us.
