Luke 10:10-20
We all want to have joy, we try to earn money, to gain power, or to be loved by others, to make us feel joyful, but the joy from God is eternal. In Luke 10:10-20, Jesus was talking to the seventy followers, who followed Jesus and listened to His teaching wherever He went. Jesus told them that for those who didn’t receive them, those who didn’t accept what they said about Jesus, then they should go out to the street to say, “The very dust of your city which clings to us we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near you.”
Jesus sent us to go to different places, not to make friends, not to make business, but to carry out the mission. When the people don’t receive us, we should not be blaming the people, but to go out to talk on the street, not to anyone but to ourselves. The seventy people were appointed by Jesus, not because we are good at socialising, not because we are well-known, but because of the appointment from Jesus. Every opportunity we have in life is from God, because when we say we are the followers of Christ, we must know that our lives no longer belong to us. Jesus Christ opens the way and He leads the way, everywhere we go, we must follow Him.
In Luke 10, Jesus also talked about three cities, Chorazin, Bethsaida, and Capernaum, where He had been, shared the Gospel, and the cities didn’t receive Him. Jesus knew a lot of people would not receive Him, and He reminded His followers to be watchful. They followed Jesus, they heard His teaching, they experienced His miracles, but did they really receive? The followers were excited that the demons were cast away in the Name of Jesus, but Jesus reminded them to see the real purpose of them following Jesus. Do we become followers for our lives to be smooth and for our problems to be solved? Or do we really receive Jesus and have relationship with Him?
God wants us to live on earth as it is in Heaven, do we believe that everything we have in Heaven we can also receive on this earth? What is the most important thing for us, to earn lots of money and to have a smooth life, or to have our names written in Heaven?
