Joshua 2:1-13
The Lord’s Prayer taught us to live on earth as it is in Heaven. Even though we physically live in the earth, we should not live the earthly lifestyle. There are many temptations and danger on this earth, and there if we don’t live a godly life, we will easily fall into the traps of the world. God has given us the ways to live on earth as it is in Heaven, and the Bible is our GPS to walk on the Way of Faith.
1. The Wisdom of Flesh and Blood – Joshua son of Nun
When the Bible refers to Joshua as the son of Num, very often his decisions were based on his flesh. Joshua was full of fear, and that’s why God continued to tell
Joshua to be strong and courageous. God knew Joshua was afraid and He gave him reassurances again and again. God also knows us, He wants to help us, and He is encouraging us again and again. But how many times do we reject God and think that God is talking to everyone else but us. Joshua heard God loud and clear, yet he was still afraid. Not only God told Joshua to be strong and courageous, but also the Israelites told Joshua the same thing. Still, Joshua sent the spies to go to Jericho. He didn’t believe that God will take the city for them, he wanted to use his own ways to try getting information about the battle ahead.
We must know who we are, when we know who we are then we will easily allows the Word of God to come into our lives. When we don’t try so hard with our own strength and let God take over, then we will be able to see God leading us to victory. We may think that we are wise using our own ways and making our own decisions, but this is the wisdom of the flesh and blood. At the end, we will only wear ourselves out. Joshua thought he was smart to send the spies, but the spies ended up in a Harlot’s house. Were the spies really did their job of spying? Did Joshua’s plan really go according to what was expected?
2. Heavenly Wisdom – the Harlot Rahab
Even though Rahab was a harlot, a lowly woman seen by the world, but she was simple and she was wise. She had faith and made one decision that saved her family and her furniture generations. She only heard the story of the God of Israel, she didn’t even see it with her eyes and she believed. It was her simple faith that gave her the wisdom to make the right choice.
Rahab was wise, she knew the secret to live on earth as it is in Heaven, she saved herself, her household, and her future generations.
