V4-5 Let Go, Rejoice in the Lord
“Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.”
True peace comes from God, not from whatever we hold onto in our hands. In the scriptures, Paul emphasized on rejoice, because he knew that true peace and joy come from God. It was a challenging and difficult time for the Philippian church, the coworkers were working hard and wanted to find their values in doing hard work. But Paul reminded them that only by God they could have the true joy, they must let go and let God. Do we know that the Lord is at hand? We are so busy with our everyday lives that we don’t realize how close the End Day is! We must let go, and know that the Lord is near, the End Day is near, and what we must do is to rejoice in the Lord. Stop letting the world influence our emotions and our minds, and trust in the Lord only.
V6-7 Open Up, Receive Peace by Prayer
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
It’s so hard for us to let go, and it’s harder for us to put down, because we are worry that we may fail, we may lose, and we worry about how other people may see us. Paul reminded us here to stop being anxious, to stop worrying, and to start praying. We cannot let go because we are afraid of losing, but instead we should give thanks, for things that we have received and things we are yet to receive. Because we must go to the opposite direction of our flesh desires, then we can truly rely on God in prayers.
What do we worry about? The things of this world. We never worry about what is in the Kingdom of Heaven, because we are so easy to see what’s in front of us.
V8-9 Be Relaxed, Follow and Do What Should be Done
“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.”
Stop thinking about ourselves, stop thinking about the work in our hands, but be at ease, let the Holy Spirit guide our every step, do what should be done, walk the path that should be walked, and follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Do we know God’s Will, we must let go, put down, and be at ease, then we can really see this Way our Father in Heaven has already paved before us.
