Sunday Sermon – The Wedding of the Lamb

Sunday, 28th January 2024

Pastor Clive Corfield (Guest Speaker)

The Lamb is Jesus, and the bride is the church. Three things we can consider from Revelation 19:7-9, “Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready. And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. Then he said to me, write: ‘Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!’  And he said to me, ‘These are the true sayings of God.’”

  1. The Wedding of the Lamb has come
  2. The Bride has made herself ready
  3. Blessed are those who are invited to the Wedding

Two words in the Bible are translated as ‘time’, they are ‘Chronos’ and ‘Kairos’. ‘Chronos’ is a period of time, it has a beginning and an end. whereas ‘Kairos’ means right now, an opportune moment, a passing instance when an opening appears, which must be driven through by force, a ‘now’ moment, a moment of opportunity. In the New Testament, Kairos means an appointment of time in the purpose of God, a time when God acts.

In Mark 1:15, Jesus said, ‘the Kingdom of God is at hand.’ It’s among us, it’s with us, and it’s now. Kairos has been used 86 times in the New Testament. God doesn’t want us to move before Him or after Him, but in the moment. When we heart God moves, we move. Jesus also spoke of be in the wrong time. When people are encouraging Him to go to Jerusalem, He said, ‘my time has not yet come’. Paul also taught us in the Book of Romans, that Jesus came just at the right time. When we were still powerless, Jesus died for the ungodly. All the Heroes in Bible, Abraham, Moses, Jacob… had this Kairos moments. They received the calling and acted in time. Abraham left his hometown, Moses encountered God in the burning bush, and Jacob saw the ladder to Heaven in his sleep.

At an appointed time in the purpose of God. This is the season, when the Holy Spirit is preparing the bride for the return of the bridegroom. The Bible told us to rejoice for the wedding of the Lamb has come. Jesus told us the story of the bride being prepared to wait for the bridegroom. There were three stages to a wedding in the culture Jesus lived in. First is the engagement, the legal binding contract and cannot be broken easily. The second stage is the coming of the bridegroom of the bride. Jesus talked about the virgins waiting in the bride’s house for the bridegroom, some were prepared and some were not. There would be an announcement of arrival of the bridegroom, then enter into the third stage, the joining of the bride and the bridegroom. Then there will be a wedding feast.

When we give our lives to Jesus, Jesus makes us an offer, He says, whoever comes to me, I will in no way drive away. He will not betray us, He will be devoted to us, until the end of our lives. Next stage is when Jesus came from Heaven to earth, the Bible tells us, that we will call me called up to meet Him in the air. When Jesus come to receive the bride Himself, then we will enter the third stage, the actual joining of the husband and the wife. We get saved, Jesus came to our lives, and He comes back for us for us to go with Him into sharing eternity together.

Isaiah 60:2-3 says, “For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people; but the Lord will arise over you, and His glory will be seen upon you. The Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.”
