V1-10 Curse Own Birth

God knew Job well, after the attack from Satan again and again, after not being understood by his wife and his friends, Job continued to trust in God. So often we may ask, why are we following God? Is it only because He will bless us? This is how Job’s wife thinks, her response did not really help Job, she was not being supportive and understanding for Job. Furthermore, Job’s friends cried with him, but they also didn’t give Job the support he needed. When we see someone in need, do we really know what they need? We must spend more time praying for them, because only God can truely help all the problems in our lives.

God called Job blameless and upright, but the response of his wife and his friends discouraged him and changed him. Job started to curse his own birth, but actually no one on this earth has the authority to curse anything or anyone. Only God has the authority to curse, and He promised in Genesis that He would not curse this earth. Only God can curse, not anyone else on this earth. He creates everything, He gives and takes away. A upright man like Job was defeated because his wife and his friends responded him.

No one is completely righteous, we are all human, we all have weaknesses, and we don’t have the authority to curse ourselves. When we cannot face the problems in our lives, when we cannot face the darkness within us, we may want to curse our lives and we may seek to die. Job was an upright and blameless man, but when he left the presence of God, his attitude changed. Job allowed Satan came to his heart. As Christians, we have authority to cast out demon and to rebuke Satan, but when we are discouraged, we may welcome the darkness and let it fill our lives.

V11-19 Curse Own Childhood

A lot of problems in life are from childhood, from birth, the world may hurt us and that we may grow up with pains. Job cursed his birth, he refused the protection of God and he chose to live in darkness. We need the light, we need to fight for the night. When we see ourselves as god, we cannot see light.

V20-36 Curse Own Upbringing

Job couldn’t see God in his life anymore, he forgot all the things God did for him in his upbringing. Job cursed his upbringing and he continued to complain and become fearful. He only saw negative things, he couldn’t see hope. When we start to curse, darkness will cover us more, when we start to complain about our birth, our upbringing, and our lives, we cannot give thanks and we cannot see the blessings of God.

What is the life we want to live in? In light or in darkness? We are weak, and we need God. There may be times we are upright and blameless, but can we continue to live in the light? We must not boast about ourselves, everything comes from God, only by Him and through Him, we can continue to stay in the light. We must know this, to hold tightly onto God, this is the only way to continue living a blameless and upright life. It’s never about what we can do, but a humble attitude to connect with God and hold onto God.
