Matthew 21:18-19
“Now in the morning, as He returned to the city, He was hungry. And seeing a fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it but leaves, and said to it, “Let no fruit grow on you ever again.”Immediately the fig tree withered away.”
Jesus was not only talking about just plants, but also our spiritual lives. Jesus saw the fig tree full circle f leaves and branches, but there were no fruits. Why was Jesus looking for fruits? Because He was hungry, and in the original text, ‘hungry’ didn’t just represent His physical state, but also His desire to be fulfilled. Jesus was seeking to be filled. When Jesus has the desire to be filled, are we ready to offer?
Matthew 21:2-3
“Saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Loose them and bring them to Me. And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.””
Jesus needed the donkey, and the donkey was there for Him. In the same way, Jesus needed the fruits of the fig tree, but the tree couldn’t fulfil Him. We all want Jesus to come and seek us, but now when Jesus comes, can He find what He is looking for? Can we fill His heart? The Bible tells us the Will of God, we know what God wants from us, but are we ready? We may be able to put our hands up when Jesus calls us, but can we really fulfil Him?
