The Lord of the Sabbath

The Lord of the Sabbath

Matthew 11:28 says, ‘Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.’

Matthew 12:8 also says, ‘For the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.’

Why did God establish Sabbath Day? It is not a law, and it is not a habit, but this is a natural happening God created when He created the Heaven and Earth. We are easy to have false impression about observing the Sabbath Day, because Jesus didn’t seem to observe the Sabbath when He was on the earth. What is our definition of the Sabbath Day? Jesus did observe the Sabbath Day, even though there were times He was challenged by the Pharisees about helping people during the Sabbath Day, but as He mentioned, the Sabbath Day is established for people, not the other way around.

Observing the Sabbath Day is not to be bound by a law. It’s just like how the traffic light is made for people, but people are not made for traffic light. Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath Day, when people are in need, He helped them and healed them, and this is the true meaning of the Sabbath Day. The devil wants to take our minds away from God about Sabbath Day, we must not fall into the legalism, but to know observing the Sabbath Day is for us to rest in God and to align with God.

Through Jesus, then we can receive the true rest, because He is the Lord of the Sabbath. It’s not about what we can do or what we cannot do during the Sabbath Day, but to follow Jesus and enjoy everything God created for us in our rest in Him.
