Genesis 2:1-3
‘Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.’
Before the Ten Commandments, there was the Sabbath Day. After God created the Heaven and Earth, He rested. Observing Sabbath is not the law, but is above the law. God declared the Sabbath a holy day, before He introduced His Son Jesus and the Holy Spirit. The holy day is not about the day we are not working, working days are also holy day, but we must set the day apart for God.
God created day and night, for us to work and to rest. This is God’s heart, God’s tempo for our lives. Working days are holy days, but the Sabbath Day is also a holy day, a different kind of holy day. This is how God created us, and this is how we should live. In work, we glorify God, in rest we can also glorify God. In the Sabbath Day, we set it apart as holy, to connect with God and to connect with people. This is not a law, this is not a rule, but this is a lifestyle God created for us to enjoy.
