V1-7 Seek Jehovah, Enter Destiny

David has entered the gates of transformation, his life changed as God prepared him to be the new king. Do we know that our way ahead is in God’s hands? He doesn’t say that our life will be smooth but He promises that He will always be with us. When God is with us, then we don’t have to be afraid. God wants to be with us, and Satan also knows it, it wants to separate us with God by bringing sins to our lives. God’s promises never fail, we can receive this promise but we must make a choice.

V1 ‘It happened after this that David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I go up to any of the cities of Judah?” And the Lord said to him, “Go up.” David said, “Where shall I go up?” And He said, “To Hebron.”’ David was willing to seek God, when he asked, God answered. Are we willing to seek God and to ask God? Or do we still want to use our own ways? We thought we only need to ask God for big things, and we can deal with the small things ourselves. But a lot of time, it’s too late when we remember to ask God, because we don’t have this habit. How do we turn back? To change our habit and ask God in everything.

V2-3 ‘So David went up there, and his two wives also, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the widow of Nabal the Carmelite. And David brought up the men who were with him, every man with his household. So they dwelt in the cities of Hebron.’ When David heard from God, he followed wholeheartedly, he didn’t leave another way open just in case, but he took everything and everyone he had with him. Because he didn’t allow him to turn back. When we choose to follow God, do we also go boldly? Do we give ourselves excuses not to go wholeheartedly? God will not put us to shame, He will open a way in the wilderness and a river in the desert.

V4-5 ‘Then the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, “The men of Jabesh Gilead were the ones who buried Saul.” So David sent messengers to the men of Jabesh Gilead, and said to them, “You are blessed of the Lord, for you have shown this kindness to your lord, to Saul, and have buried him.”’ God didn’t tell David that he would be the king when he entered Hebron, but when David was willing to simply follow, the kingship came to him. God is a God Who prepares abundance for us, He is Jehovah Jireh, do we know God’s Names? When we do then we can follow boldly, put down all the desires, let go of all the past, and follow Him.

V6-7 ‘And now may the Lord show kindness and truth to you. I also will repay you this kindness, because you have done this thing. Now therefore, let your hands be strengthened, and be valiant; for your master Saul is dead, and also the house of Judah has anointed me king over them.’ David rewarded and comforted the people of Jabesh Gilead. David knew God’s will and he treated everyone with God’s love. When we lost the direction, when we lost the people who lead us, we will feel afraid and we will try to turn back to our old ways. David knew the people were lost when Saul died, and he used God’s love to direct them.

V8-32 Seek Self, Enter the Rough Life 自以爲神 下場坎苛

V8-9 ‘But Abner the son of Ner, commander of Saul’s army, took Ishbosheth the son of Saul and brought him over to Mahanaim; and he made him king over Gilead, over the Ashurites, over Jezreel, over Ephraim, over Benjamin, and over all Israel.’ A contrast to David was Abner, he thought he could make the decision, and he didn’t seek God. Abner made Ishbosheth the king, but Ishbosheth was only a puppet, he had no real authority. When we didn’t want to follow God and seek God’s Will. We will only lead to failures and destructions.

V12-14 ‘Now Abner the son of Ner, and the servants of Ishbosheth the son of Saul, went out from Mahanaim to Gibeon. And Joab the son of Zeruiah, and the servants of David, went out and met them by the pool of Gibeon. So they sat down, one on one side of the pool and the other on the other side of the pool. Then Abner said to Joab, “Let the young men now arise and compete before us.” And Joab said, “Let them arise.”’ Abner didn’t value lives, Joab also didn’t ask God in everything he did. They let their followers fight and compete as a game, and they started another war. David never wanted to fight Israel, he chose to run away from this war with Israel, because he knew God’s Will was for them to have peace with one another, but Abner and Joab started the war between Judah and Israel.

V18-20 ‘Now the three sons of Zeruiah were there: Joab and Abishai and Asahel. And Asahel was as fleet of foot as a wild gazelle. So Asahel pursued Abner, and in going he did not turn to the right hand or to the left from following Abner. Then Abner looked behind him and said, “Are you Asahel?” He answered, “I am.”’ When the leader didn’t ask God, his followers also don’t ask God. Joab‘a brother was worse, he didn’t treat it as a game but an opportunity to kill. He wouldn’t stop chasing Abner and at the end, he lost his life.

God wants to bless us, He wants our lives to be transformed, but are we willing to seek Him in everything we do?
