Psalm 2

Rev Daniel Xi An Poon
When David started to rely on himself, he fell, but when he started to rely on God, God showed him the abundant life. When we rely on ourselves, we thought we are benefiting ourselves, but at the end we receive nothing. Do we know our identity as the children of God? Because if we do, we will not rely on this world, God will provide us all we need. We must turn back to God.
V1-3 ‘Why do the nations rage, and the people plot a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying, “Let us break Their bonds in pieces and cast away Their cords from us.”’ The nations, the people, and the kings represent the entire world, the whole world come against God and His Anointed. Who is the Anointed? The first time it was mentioned in the Bible was about the priests, who had been set apart as holy. The world wanted to come against God and His priests because they only saw bondage and restrictions. This is an orphan mindset, orphans only saw themselves being restricted, they relied on themselves and on this world to seek what they wanted.
Do we know that our body on this world is only dust? We want to hold onto this perishable body when God wants to save our soul that lasts in eternity. We thought we can set ourselves free, we thought we can do many things for God, but by our own strength we cannot do anything. So often we tell people we are helping them, but do we know who we really are? We cannot help anyone without God, when we think we are helping them, we treat ourselves as God. On the other hand, we must seek God in everything, when we don’t seek God, then we are relying on our own strength or the strength of others, and we will fail into the trap of the orphan spirit. God doesn’t need us to do anything for Him, He only wants us to respond to Hid love. God wants us to walk with Him, to enjoy His presence, to live out the Greg ranch of the Tree of Life.
Jesus came to this world as a servant, He did not come as a king for people to listen to Him or to serve Him. He knows His identity, so we know our identity? God loves us, He is our loving Father, we must recognise our selfish orphan mindset.
V4-9 ‘He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; the Lord shall hold them in derision. Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, and distress them in His deep displeasure: Yet I have set My King on My holy hill of Zion. I will declare the decree: The Lord has said to Me, ‘You are My Son, today I have begotten You. Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.’’ God doesn’t want to destroy us, He doesn’t want to put us to a dead end, His Will is to save us, to bring us salvation, if God wants to kill us He could’ve done it in the Garden of Eden and He wouldn’t cover Adam and Eve with the sheepskin. We try to hide from God, we want to hide our sins, our mistakes, our problems, our weaknesses… but we cannot hide anything.
When we lay down ourselves, live out the Tree of Life, humble, obedient, deny ourselves, and benefit others, and God will make us reborn, to turn back from the orphan spirit and enter into the true sons and daughters. When we turn reborn, we will no longer be the same, today God has begotten us, He has anointed us, His Spirit has come upon us, and He has set us free.
V10-12 ‘Now therefore, be wise, O kings; be instructed, you judges of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish in the way, when His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.’ God has already appointed people to guide us in this world, but are we willing to be disciplined? We are blinded, we don’t like to receive teaching, we want to solve all our problems by ourselves. We cannot help anyone, but we can live out the portion God gave us. It’s not ‘helping’ but ‘offering’ willingly. When we help we want something in return, but when we offer, we do it from our heart. It’s today, it’s right now, not when we feel we are ready, to return, to listen to teaching, to receive discipline, to offer, to seek God, and to come to the Father.
