Rev Daniel Xi An Poon

We must have the Word of God, without the Word, we will easily follow the teaching of the world and we will slowly lose our direction. Through the Word of God, we can walk in this path, and we will not need to be afraid. The Holy Spirit will guide us and lead us on this path, He is love and He will lead us into the Promised Land He has prepared for us. Where is the Promised Land and what is in the Promised Land? We will use our own expectations and definitions to see this Promised Land, but it’s actually not just one particular physical place, but it’s a place with God’s presence, and it’s a place we can experience God.

Section One V1-10

When the Israelites were about to enter the Promised Land, they faced the death of Moses and their forefathers, the Jordan River, the walls of Jericho, and the giants in the land. What do we rely on in the Promised Land? Not money, not fame, not our family, not our friends, but God. We don’t need to go to Israel, and we don’t need to go to the land of Canaan, in the place we fully rely on God, this is our Promised Land. God has led us this far because He wants us to rely on Him. We can never hide from God, and we should not hide from God, for He is a merciful God. He will call us back to Him, no matter where we are and no matter how far we have gone away.

V6 ‘And the Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live.’ When we return, when we repent, God’s blessings will be with us abundantly. A lot of times, we feel like we are in a dark pit, and we cannot go on anymore, but by action, we can show our faith to God. We can never deal with our own problems but only by God. We must take the first step, to return in the impossible situation, and to follow God no matter what. Then God will be able to heal us and guide us to the right path.

In Jesus’ time, the woman with the blood disease came to Jesus first, then Jesus healed her. Can we come close to God even when it seems impossible? We humble ourselves and let go of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. We must not wait until we are ready or when we feel better, but we must action now. God can solve all the problems in our lives, He is God, and He is our Father. We cannot solve our own problems by our own hands, only God can, but He is waiting for us to completely surrender.

V9-10 ‘The Lord your God will make you abound in all the work of your hand, in the [b]fruit of your body, in the increase of your livestock, and in the produce of your land for good. For the Lord will again rejoice over you for good as He rejoiced over your fathers, if you obey the voice of the Lord your God, to keep His commandments and His statutes which are written in this Book of the Law, and if you turn to the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.’ Do we live in God’s Promises? Everything and everyone born from us is blessed, and therefore we must believe in it, we have been blessed and we are loved. Everything and everyone belong to us is also loved. God is love, He gives us this opportunity to return and to repent.

Section Two V11-14 To Obey God’s Commandments

V11 ‘For this commandment which I command you today is not too mysterious for you, nor is it far off.’ Following God is not only by proclaiming it but also by following the commandments of God. We feel this is difficult to do, but God knows our weaknesses and He will not let us do what we cannot do. What is coming out from our mouth has power, so we should proclaim the Word of God, which is the truth. When we proclaim it, we also must believe in our heart, He is our Creator God, He is Powerful, and He is able. Do not give ourselves excuses not to read the Word of God, the Torah.

Section Three V15-20 To Choose Life

What do we listen to and what do we follow? It’s so easy for us to listen to and to see the teaching of men, and we feel the Bible is difficult to read. But is this true? We tend to choose the easy way, to listen to how others interpret the Bible, and not to read the Bible ourselves. Why do we tend to choose the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil instead of the Tree of Life? Because we want to be our own God, we want to make our own decisions, and we don’t want to let go of what we have right now. This is our choice, to put down our own lives and to choose the life from God.
