Pastor Joey (Guest Speaker)
John 21:1-19
God created everything according to His purpose. He sees every created thing as very good. Do we know our true identity? Do we know how God looks at us? Most of us think that we are not good, most of us think that we know who we are but we actually don’t know. Because our identity usually is based on how others see us and how the society define us.
Firmly Believe in the Word of the Lord
When the Lord told the disciples that He would be at the Sea of Galilee, He would be there. The disciples lost hope at the time, they went back to be fishermen and were labouring in their work. But Jesus was there, He kept His promise and He showed up. Do we believe that Jesus will show up in our problems? When He say He will save, He will heal, and He will deliver, do we believe that He really will do it for us?
Shepherding and Following the Lord in Love
When Jesus asked if Peter loved Him, Peter responded Him. But when Jesus asked him three times, Peter must had thought about the time when he betrayed Jesus. Jesus forgave him and again invited him to follow by shepherding His sheep. Peter knew that he was weak but Jesus reassured him and comforted him. It’s not easy to follow God in darkness. But do we believe that God loves us more than anything else? When we keep on following God and shepherding His sheep, when we look back, we will only see blessings.

Jesus called out to Peter and tried to wake him up. Peter was not who he thought he was, Jesus was showing Peter his true identity, it’s not about what he did in the past, but about who he could become when we follow Jesus! We are all God’s beloved children, He is our Good Father, He knows our weaknesses, He will always be with us, but we must receive from Him and connect with Him.
When we receive our true identity, then we will know that we don’t belong to this world. We are not who the world says we are. It’s just like how Peter and the disciples tried to go back to their old lives as fishermen, when they follow the worldly values and worldly ways, they couldn’t catch any fish and they were tired. But when Jesus came back to their lives, they didn’t need to do anything and fish came to them! When we receive our true identity, the worldly values will no longer apply to us, we don’t need to chase for blessings but the blessings will chase us.
What is our situation right now? The disciples were waiting at the Sea of Galilee, and when they didn’t see Jesus, they started to follow their own way. But their own way was not able to help them. Today Jesus wants us to follow His Way, not to struggle in our problems, but to really receive this identity as the child if God, and follow the Way of God.
