Rev Don Young (Guest Speaker)
Romans 10 told us over and over again that nothing can separate us from the love of God, but the enemy is doing everything he can to stop us receiving the love of God. When the enemy comes into our lives and lie to us, we start to think that God doesn’t love us. When we listen to the enemy more, the more we will believe in the lies, and the more we will think that God doesn’t love us.
God wants to free us, He wants us to know that we are not orphans. We are accepted, we are loved, and we are values by God. When we come in the house of God, we also receive all the love and favours God prepared for Jesus. We have received the identity as the children of God when we receive Jesus, no one and nothing can take this identity away from us, but we might doubt in this identity. The enemy will confuse us and lie to us, then we will start to think that God would not love us.
When we listen to the lies long enough, the lies will become the truth. If we believe we are orphans, if we think that God doesn’t love us, then we will live out the lives of orphans. We have the Father’s blessings and the orphan’s spirit, which are completely opposite. We can choose which one we want to have in our lives. The Father’s blessings give us freedom but the orphan’s spirit stays in our pain. The orphan’s spirit will curse us, give us insecurity, and blind us from the love of God.
When Jesus healed the woman with blood illness, not only He healed her body, but also her heart, when Jesus healed her, He also healed her from her shame and emotional hurt. God wants to heal us, for us to come back to God’s family, and for us to be His sons and daughters.
In the story of the prodigal son, the father didn’t know when his son would come back, but in the Bible it says that the father embraced his son. So this means that the father has been waiting everyday and until one day his son really came back. The son went back expecting to be a servant, because in the culture during the days, when the children leave the house and dishonour the family, they would not come back as children but as servants, they would not be accepted in the community.
It’s called “Kedassa”, when the chief of the village gathered the people and declare that the returned child would have no place and no value in the village apart from as a servant. Then would break a vase to represent that the return child is like a broken piece, which had no value. When the father embraced the son, he broke the curse of “Kedassa”. God is the same for us, He embraces us and stops curses to come to our lives.
